Session 031 - The Battle of Lincoln and the Birth of Meredith

Summary

In spring 490, Uther and Duke Erof of Cornwall marched north together after their reconciliation through Merlin. Madoc commanded the conroi with the combined army until they met Saxon forces between Newark and Lincoln. The conroi struck for a high-value enemy commander: Liam unhorsed the commander and his squire Gwinas secured the capture, while Asterius unhorsed a bodyguard and Wulfrun brought that captive back. Madoc was gravely wounded and stabilized by his squire Lewis, but survived and slipped back into madness.

After recovery, the conroi fought a small giant and two wild men. Millicent, heavily pregnant, rode in wearing polished maternity armor to protect her husband. Geraint charged down a wild man and tripped the giant, Assterius killed the wild man threatening Millicent, and Liam finished the giant. Madoc, mistaking Liam for Uther, hurled fashion-mad insults at the giant and survived again.

The conroi then tried to take ten well-dressed dismounted Saxon knights for ransom, only to discover they were elite spear fighters able to close ranks against cavalry. Millicent was unhorsed, Brangolet went missing in the chaos, and Geraint was nearly lost while trying to help. Madoc and Liam pulled the fallen back by the skin of their teeth. The fall drove Millicent into labor, and her daughter Meredith was born on the battlefield. The wider army drove the Saxons from the field, and Uther called a feast to celebrate both the victory at Lincoln and the birth of his granddaughter.
